A tragic incident unfolded at the Madurai railway station as a massive fire engulfed a stationary train compartment, resulting in the loss of 10 lives and leaving more than 20 people injured. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, sending shockwaves through the community and prompting immediate response from authorities and rescue personnel.
According to the Southern Railway, the fire was caused by an "illegal gas cylinder" on board the train compartment. The compartment was identified as a "private party coach" that had recently arrived from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The fire outbreak took place at around 5:15 am, with fire service personnel managing to extinguish the blaze by 7:15 am.
Madurai district collector MS Sangeetha, who quickly arrived at the scene, confirmed the tragic loss of 10 lives and informed that 20 individuals had sustained injuries and were admitted to a hospital for treatment.
